I was at She Said Books on Roncesvalles last weekend. They have a great selection of new and used Art books, as well as new and used cds. I was looking for some funky bass masters in the Jazz section when I also found this: I've been listening to it since! Isaak Hayes pretty much turned Soul into Funk during the early Seventies on the Stax record label. He won a Grammy for his theme to Shaft, a television series soundtrack released in 1971. Can you dig it?
In the fall, me, mrs. anchovy, and the emperor of ephemera visited soulsville USA in memphis...one of the exhibits was Isaac Hayes' caddilac, complete with gold-plated tire nuts and a beer cooler in the backseat....he wore funky outfits too.....the highlight of memphis though, was standing on the spot where johnny cash sang I walk the line in Sun Studios. WoW

This CD is very good. Quite mellow and enjoyable. Addictive, also.
He does a version of "The Look of Love", which can be found on the "Dead Presidents" soundtrack. A must listen.
