I did a google search of this title Organic Variation. No wonder it was a tough piece to complete...so far!

When you leave a border like on this piece, do you intend for the painting to stop there, like you might stretch the canvas to that point, or is it some kind of bordering device you see as part of the piece?

Great observation as always Eugene! Yes the bordering device is meant to be viewed as part of the whole(Bruce Parsons was one positive influence while I attended the Fine Arts Program at York University) , I feel that it works!

I don't know if you are familiar with the way Alichinsky used bordering devices - if not check out some of his works where it appears he either glues on or draws postcard sized images that relate to a large central image.
