graffitiloft

graffitiloft, originally uploaded by Tim Noonan.

While taking the downtrodden shortcut from my studio to Queen Street I noticed a graffiti wall behind Abel Street. I superimposed a shot with this image of a loft sales office nearby to Woolfitts Art supply. Previously I purchased around 6 yards of 14 oz canvas. That is a bit heavier than what I usually use and I stretched up two 48X48 pieces to work on. I primed them with a dillution of gesso and roplex so they won't be so white and I'm hoping that the extra tooth will be a good surface for the washy technique which I've been exploring. Maybe I will use this image as a starting reference.

March 28: A Canada Council Day of the Arts?

Today is the 50 th Anniversary of The Canada Council for the Arts. Celebrated names gathered in Ottawa. Wouldn't it be cool if all Canadian artists had today off work?

Another look at winterstream, resiized and horizontally positioned gives it new life. I'm going to paint this idea in acrylic.

Welcome To The Zoom Quilt

Makes me dizzy like being on a roller coaster, thankfully the montage can be slowed and paused for a detailed view of this zany artform.

This 50x50" acrylic is washy with browns and accent colours. The mark making aspect sort of reminds me of an early Jackson Pollock ink wash and a lot more!

My Sunday was busy painting these two 50x50" acrylic canvases. This pink one was inspired by one of my photos. I wonder if my drum practise is in there somehow.

Stardust

Neil Gaiman's adult fantasy novel of faeries is brought to life by Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. I think that Stardust was also published as a graphic novel. More pirates in this one too, ha,ha.

I was wondering when the third installment of the Pirates series would be released. I heard that Keith Richards has a cameo as Jack's father!

A close up of my guitars. I have a Fender Stratocaster and an Epiphone Bass. I was practising a new song earlier, working improvised chords around C7 and Db.

Clyfford Still Cache Discovered

A secret cache of 2,393 works by Clyfford Still could be worth 1 Billion US. The reclusive artist accepted no bs from the comercialized world. "He painted in a barn, rolling up his monumental canvases and storing them away, rarely to be exhibited, sold or even looked at again in his lifetime". Via NYT.

The Dreamer's Spring Dream, 48X60". I painted this in one session while simultaneously working on another! It turned out well, because the icons are more recognizable than usual. So I hope that I can do a few more in this style soon.

Lots of acrylic layers on this pseudo comic-abstraction. The idea evolved from a photo of a toy store window and the imagery was abstracted into colour and technique.

I started this new one today. I like the washy effect and it will probably end up buried under layers. Yes, no?

I hope that it is as good as the reviews!

I'm working on these 2 canvases at present. The one on the right may be complete, at least there is very little left to finish it. I may title it the Dreamer's Dream as I see an inclined figure at the bottom. Tomorrow I will be shifting the left one to a verticle position to get the drip action criss-crossing.

Captain America RIP March 7, 2007.

Comic creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby lose their Marvel Comics hero of 60 years. Killed by a sniper at the end of a controversial story arc: Civil War. Marvel claims that there will be no bringing back of Steve Rogers. The gut wrenching issue 25 is sold out, the 2nd printing is under way for March 28.

snowgeese

Riopelle beware, I'm on to the goose thing! Weird seeing all these geese sitting on the snow. I can appreciate the warmth of my down filled jacket just a little more! The urge to merge with a branch makes for a cool abstraction. like the geese. This little park is unfortunately plagued by the poor geese, because someone keeps feeding them garbage bags filled with bread, which was originally intended for the pigeons, whom have been driven away by messy geese. Hopefully they will move on?

While I am getting ready to gesso these two blank canvases I'm thinking about their potential and reflect upon recent completed works. Over the last 5 months I experimented with and explored different mixtures and applications of paint which included working flat on the floor. For the most part I will remember those works as the drip series, though they really had much more going on. Now I intend on developing a series based upon a pictorial theme. What exactly this will entail will involve the concept of passage from one place to another (and back?). I would like to get some suggestions from readers if possible. Thanks!

I found this old image of the Silver Snail comic shop window in my archives. Thought I would spark it up by layering another street image with it. Sin City was a cool movie, I have it on dvd. Frank Miller's black and white comic art rules too!
