While I am getting ready to gesso these two blank canvases I'm thinking about their potential and reflect upon recent completed works. Over the last 5 months I experimented with and explored different mixtures and applications of paint which included working flat on the floor. For the most part I will remember those works as the drip series, though they really had much more going on. Now I intend on developing a series based upon a pictorial theme. What exactly this will entail will involve the concept of passage from one place to another (and back?). I would like to get some suggestions from readers if possible. Thanks!

you mean like the tunnel between Detroit and Windsor?...or the holes a groundhog makes?...or a river and a rainstorm?....
Could be that's an idea. A groundhog hole is boring though. I was thinking of when I occasionally ride the train to Ottawa and then back to Toronto. I always look out the window and watch the scenery go past, something might catch my eye. And I wonder if I could create that energy and passing of time in a single image, maybe a collage type. Also I ride the subway to and from work every day, basically an hour of time sitting. I sometimes read but more often I watch out the window at platforms and a weird highlight is crossing the viaduct! Lots to look out at in a few moments. So it's the idea of the passage of time but also a physical thing from one location to another and the territory I pass through. I do the same on the bus, to and from my studio, watch out the window. In fact in every aspect of travel whether to the grocery by foot or the restaurant for breakfast on Sunday, I'm watching around me, seeing, it's a visual activity. Am I looking for something? I don't know exactly and all the while myself is transported to and back. Where does all that information and time go? Can it be measured up to use with creating art? Maybe we are all just groundhogs trying to make our tunnels more interesting? Ha, ha. I need a vacation.
Wow, that is quite a concept. But on the other hand...it sort of describes what painting or art making is always...taking a journey...offering your self or your viewer a transformation...seeing the world or ideas in a new way is a kind of passage?
hey have fun...it sounds like you've got a real interesting challenge I look forwardto seeing where you travel...
Candy who personally finds blank paper or canvas intimidating and I do my best to mess it up quickly so i can get to the good stuff on a corrupted canvas ha ha ha
I used to get my daughter to ride her bicycle over my watercolour papers or new canvas....
Cool! I think your right, just moving from one painting to another or even the act of painting is a journey! Bike tracks,.. I love it!
