A bike helmet built for road hazards

So ...what happened to using your senses of sight and hearing to detect road hazards? This device is overkill! I won't buy it unless he figures out to get a tv in there.)

Mother Duck and son. The young Mallard will grow into a deep dark green head with a white stripe around his longer neck which isn't obvious now. I took this shot along with several others in High Park over the summer. I like the ripples in the water and the reflected leaves as much as the calm ducks floating around.

Whew it's so hot in there, it's a good thing the stream is moving! Probably some analogy to the summer going past quickly, but I won't admit it. The next painting I do is going to have some ducks in it, probably be more shady too!

The Evolution of Speech Balloons

I find this link at Drawn to be amusing, check out the link:).

Back To School Activities

I spent most of today washing and moving furniture around my classroom. I set the space up for five groupings of desks, one art centre, one listening centre and a writing centre. I'm still rethinking a math and science area. Also I set up the classroom computer and started decorating the bulletin boards; incorporating classroom themes such as word family lists. I found some very good activities and resources for a "back to school" theme at The Teacher's Corner. I particularly like this measurement activity titled Growth.

Summer's End

I awoke this morning to grey damp weather instead of the usual bright sun. It dawned on me that summer is quickly ending. The days are shorter, cool nights, grey days, the signs are all around. The Ex is in full force and Labour Day weekend is but 5 days away. In a month's time leaves will be falling from trees. I miss the summer already. No more sleeping in or morning rides to the studio for coffees at Liberty Village. No more open rides to High Park or along the lake shore. No more casual strolls down Bloor street in the sunny afternoon. Tomorrow I begin the steady ttc treck back to school days by setting up my classroom. Then it's "what did you do in the summer?" a sure thing that it's done. Well outside of one trip to Ottawa, to the National Gallery and one one trip to Walmart in Massena, I have mostly chilled out here in Toronto and I still must get over to the AGO this week. I think that I worked on and completed 17 paintings(12 small) which is not too bad considering that my goal was 24 and technically there are still 5 days left. Claude has moved out of the studio and Steve is moving in by September, there's another sign! Between my friends I think I attended 8 barbeques, 2 dinners and went for coffees on Bloor Street twentyfive times. Today I'm over to my brother's for a steak barbeque, so that will make 9 now. I read several books on artists including Billie Holiday and also several fiction novels; currently Stephen Baxter/Arthur C.Clark "Time's Eye"(fitting isn't it). My entertaining consisted of having guests for wine and cheese at my loft on two occasions and one studio visit. Oh I almost forgot about my aqua-fitness and yoga classes at the Y on College Street, summer wouldn't be the same. Now I'm off to Yonge and Bloor for shopping! Oh the link is what came up on the title search. Happy September!

Picasso and Lump

Picasso painted 44 studies in his “Meninas” series between Aug. 17 and Dec. 30, 1957 — and Lump appears in 15 of them. Nice rabbit there Pablo!
david bowie- life on mars

Oddly this video of David Bowie is coloured like a Warhol print.

The Exploding. plastic. Inevitable.

I was listening to some old Velvet Underground albums, you know with Lou Reed and I decided to do a little surfing. I came across this interesting explanation of Andy Warhol's multimedia art, whereby he coordinated simultaneous screenings of his films, live performances by the Velvet Underground, Poetry readings, Dance performances and effective lighting shows. I feel that the visual aspects of this multi screen art has roots in the cubist paintings of Picasso. It was a natural for Warhol to further experiment with layering sound to compliment and contrast the visuals. Modern absorptions of the E.P.I. experience and film are everywhere today: music videos, dance halls, advertising, television/video, stage performance, computer,...wherever there is a little Warhol in everything.

Paint By Number

I seem to recall having completed one or two of these kits when I was in primary school. There is a certain nostalgia associated with this informative history of the paint by number fad. I wonder if it's influence prompted me to pursue painting as a creative outlet?

Warhol At The AGO

This review of the Andy Warhol exhibition at The AGO pretty well sums up the problem. I must get around to seeing the exhibit because I like his silkscreen prints(even if they were done by assistants).

It's tomato season. Tuffy P. and Mr. Anchovy gave me some big tomatoes from their garden. Here's what to do: Triple decker toasted tomato, tuna and cheddar cheese sandwich. Gazpacho cold tomato, onion, green pepper, carrot and red vinegar blended fresh soup. Tomato, avocado, peach and red leaf lettuce salad with toast. Yum!
Who has more ideas?
